Personal Wellness I

This one-year course is designed to promote a positive approach toward one's personal health. The absence of illness does not guarantee good health. Wellness is a state of total health. It is derived from the acquisition and application of accurate health knowledge and health attitudes. Wellness is a lifestyle that incorporates a three-fold commitment based on physical, mental, and social health. The student is provided with experiences in health-related fitness, health-related decision-making skills, self-esteem, and personal regard. The goals of this course are accomplished through participation in direct classroom instruction, computer-generated activities and application, and physical activities. These include the development of knowledge pertaining to the principles of wellness, components of fitness, proper nutrition, personal decision-making skills, and career opportunities. This course will fulfill one of the two physical education credits required for graduation.
